World Labs envisions a future where AI transcends traditional boundaries, mastering the complexities of three-dimensional spatial environments to transform how we interact with digital worlds. Our mission is to unlock new dimensions of intelligence by creating Large World Models that enable machines to perceive, generate, and engage deeply with 3D spaces, laying the foundation for the next era of AI innovation.
By pioneering advancements in spatial intelligence, we drive meaningful progress across industries—from immersive gaming and virtual reality to innovative design and robotics. Our work harnesses cutting-edge AI technologies to build fundamentally new ways for humans and machines to collaborate within richly interactive, programmable worlds.
At World Labs, we believe the future of intelligence lies in understanding and creating within the spatial dimension. We are building the core tools and models that will empower creators, developers, and visionaries to shape that future and redefine what is possible with AI.
Our Review
We'll be honest — when we first heard about World Labs, our initial reaction was "another AI startup?" But then we saw the founding team and realized this isn't just another ChatGPT clone. With Fei-Fei Li at the helm (yes, the Stanford AI legend who helped create ImageNet), this company is tackling something genuinely different: teaching AI to understand and create 3D worlds.
What Makes This Actually Interesting
Most AI companies are still playing in the 2D sandbox — text, images, maybe video if they're feeling fancy. World Labs is building what they call Large World Models (LWMs) that can actually perceive, generate, and interact with three-dimensional environments. Think of it as the difference between describing a house and actually walking through one.
The applications are pretty compelling once you think about it. Game developers could describe a fantasy castle and watch it materialize in full 3D. Architects might sketch rough concepts and see them rendered as explorable spaces. AR/VR experiences could become as easy to create as writing a blog post.
The Star Power Factor
Let's talk about this founding team for a second. Fei-Fei Li isn't just any AI researcher — she's basically AI royalty. When someone with her track record decides to leave academia and start a company, the entire industry pays attention. Her co-founders aren't exactly nobodies either, bringing deep expertise in computer vision, graphics, and generative models.
This pedigree shows in their funding rounds too. Raising $230 million from firms like Andreessen Horowitz doesn't happen by accident — these investors have seen the actual technology in action.
Why We're Cautiously Optimistic
Here's what we like: World Labs isn't promising to solve everything tomorrow. They're focused on one really hard problem — spatial intelligence — and they have the right people to crack it. The near-term applications in gaming and design feel realistic, while the long-term robotics potential could be transformative.
That said, building 3D AI models is notoriously compute-intensive and complex. We're curious to see how they'll make this accessible to developers who aren't AI PhDs. The company just emerged from stealth, so we're still waiting to see actual demos and pricing models.
But if anyone can pull this off, it's probably this team. We're keeping a close eye on World Labs — this could be the company that finally makes 3D AI feel as natural as chatting with ChatGPT.

World Labs is a spatial intelligence company building Large World Models (LWMs) to perceive, generate, and interact with the 3D world. We aim to lift AI models from the 2D plane of pixels to full 3D worlds – both virtual and real – endowing them with spatial intelligence as rich as our own. We believe that humans are innovative, curious, and creative; science and technology are both manifestations and drivers of these impulses. Propelling AI forward with spatial intelligence will also propel forward both individuals and humanity as a whole. Toward this goal, World Labs will develop spatially intelligent LWMs that can understand and reason about the 3D world from images and other modalities. Over time, we expect to train increasingly powerful models with broader capabilities that can be applied in a variety of domains, working alongside people. These are ambitious goals, so we are building an ambitious company to tackle them. Our team, led by co-founders Fei-Fei Li, PhD; Justin Johnson, PhD; Christoph Lassner, PhD; and Ben Mildenhall, PhD, has a strong research background, but we are not motivated by exploration for its own sake. Instead, we believe that now is a unique moment where rapid scientific progress has thinned the barrier between research and applications. We aim to seize this opportunity, focusing on the entire throughline from research to engineering to product to people. We are bringing together the most formidable slate of pixel talent ever assembled, creating a tight feedback loop between our spatially intelligent foundation models and products that will empower our users. We invite you to learn more about joining our fast-growing team.
